Congress-STOP governing PLEASE
For so long we have let these folks sit up there on the hill and make decisions for the rest of us without paying a whole lot of attention. I mean how much damage could they do? They are so busy holding hearings on steroids in baseball, traveling abroad to meet with other dignataries, fighting amongst themselves about policy, investigating one another when one of them gets caught with their hand in the cookie jar, and cutting side deals with lobbysists and supporters so they can keep their seat, that there is little time to do actual work. Well by not paying attention they must have felt we believed they were doing a great job! After all we keep electing them and in their eyes that meant we agreed with the way they are running things!
Now everything has hit the fan. All of the legislation and decisions they have made over the last 20 years or so are coming back to bite us in the butt. One congressman went so far to say that we don’t care about the pork every single one of their bills contain! Are you kidding me? Of course we care.
I would rather they not pass one single piece of legislation this entire year than spend my money on pork and pet projects. In fact, the best piece of legislation they could pass at this point would be to take each state’s population and divide that 800 billion among the states based on this. Give them the cash with no strings attached. Let the leaders of each state decide how to use the money. What works in one region of the country doesn’t work in another. What one region needs does not necessarily mean it is what another region needs.
The stimulus bill that was passed dictates on what and how the state can use the money. What if a state doesn’t need another 2 billion for food stamps? Should they actively go out and look for people who might qualify or should they be able to take that money and use it somewhere else? What if their state has low unemployment (yes some states are running around 4%) and don’t need extra money for benefits? Should they look to lay people off so they can get this money OR should they be able to use it on infrastructure projects that create more jobs?
I read somewhere that most of our leaders did not have time to read the bill in its entirety before they voted for it. This is just classic. If any of us ran our businesses in this manner we would be out of business within a month. But not congress-oh no. In fact I hear rumor that a second stimulus bill is in the works. Hold on to your hats because we have one party in control of both the legislative and executive branches. This is never a good thing. As my one year old nephew would say-Uh Oh.
